PROJECTS
Along with environmental, community development and
health education, the NGO is involved in planning and participatory development
initiatives in the Niger Delta by means of publications in local tabloids and
other seminars eg. at the WEMFA workshop on blueprint for the Niger Delta
Development commission held at Yenagoa – Feb 25 – 28 2001. the NGO is involved
in highlighting the peculiar problems of the region to both local and foreign
interest with a view to influence public policy towards development of the
disadvantaged eg about twenty topical issues in the Tide, South South Express
Newspapers and Comet Newspapers etc.
Under our capacity building
initiative, we have helped rural communities especially Bakana – Degema local
Government Area of Rivers State where we offered free (no. salary, no allowance,
no tuition fee) assistance in eight key subjects for three consecutive academic
years (1993-1996) to the two schools – Obama Boys High School and St. Scholar
Stica Girls High School.
Organised two workshops on “What
hope for our youths” in June 28th 1992 and “Youth development and
it’s benefits to the community” in June 29th 1993.
Organised three colloquy on
“Peace and development with Niger Delta Youths to commemorate the African
Refugees Day 2000 on June 22nd 2000. Environment and
development to commemorate Earth day 2002 at Buguma April 22nd
2002 and non violent elections 2002 and beyond with political office aspirants
across Rivers State to commemorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day tagged “HAGUE APPEAL
FOR PEACE FOR NIGERIA’S DEMOCRACY – May 29th – June 15th
2002.
We have participated in several
consultation workshops especially with the Shell Petroleum Development Company
of Nigeria Limited in it’s stakeholders Consultative workshops on environment in
April and November 1998, integrated environment and community development in
March 2000, NGOs consultative forum in June 1999. we also had inputs to the
Niger Delta Environmental Surveys (NDES) and Jaycees International Nigeria
Inaugural Workshops on environment in 1995 and 1997.
Initiated the Energy NGOs round
table to discuss and proffer solutions with other NGOs to the Rivers State
Government through the Energy Bureau on peculiar energy, peace environment and
community development.
Took part in training workshops
by CENCOMDEV/Mac author Reproductive Health/Population in September 2001 and
Broadsource/DARC on non profit boards management in April 2002 respectively
